Hiriya is a place that all EMIS students saw on their way when they were coming to the school for the first time. This huge hill is a former landfill that served Tel Aviv for almost 50 years. Now, the site is closed and it has been turned into pioneering recycling center, waste disposal facility, and a unique ecological park has been created on the top of Hiriya.

ESS and Visual Art students together with Green Team went on a trip there to learn about Hiriya and the new technologies needed to address the increasing environmental problems our society is facing. Students also had a chance to create their own bags from materials retrieved from old billboards recycled in the facility.

Such experiences are crucial to students’ development as global citizens and provide the opportunity to gain necessary knowledge about sustainable development, which is one of the three areas of focus at EMIS.
