As a boarding school, we know that all children are different and would ideally like to meet you and your child, allow you to experience the school and get to know you all so that we fully understand your needs. However, we have students from over 40 countries already studying with us, so we know that it isn’t always easy to come and visit the school. This is why we have created a process where you can find out everything you need to know about the school from our website.

Peace Simulation

The Peace Simulation is organized every year in collaboration with EMIS students, with the desire of providing them with the tools of dialogue and conflict resolution. Although the pandemic brought a lot of challenges and limitations to the project, we were still able to plan an intense and stimulating event.

What is Peace Simulation?

The Peace Simulation is organized every year in collaboration with EMIS students, with the desire of providing them with the tools of dialogue and conflict resolution. Through this opportunity, young teenagers from Israel, Palestine, and the rest of the world engage in discussion and negotiations regarding the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict, learning how complex this task truly is. They learn how important but also challenging it is to listen to ‘the other side’. They experience first-hand how deeply intertwined all the different factors of this conflict are, gaining a better understanding of the reasons behind the current status quo and strive to make a change. 

The students learn more about the conflict and try to understand all different perspectives. Moreover, they feel empowered by this experience and realize that they have the power to change. 

Thank you to Tzili Charney and the Leon Charney Resolution Center for enabling our students to be exposed to this experience.

To enhance the educational experience of our Peace Simulation, every year we invite speakers with incredible stories, lectures, educational approaches, and knowledge on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that can be passed on to youth. 

Sulaiman Khatib​
"Personal story - Transformation"

Sulaiman Khatib was born in Hizmeh, a town just outside Jerusalem, and currently lives in Ramallah. He is a Board Member of the Middle East initiative and is a Co-Founder and former Co-Director of Combatants for Peace (CfP).
CfP is a non-profit Israeli and Palestinian peace-building organization with headquarters in Bethlehem and Tel Aviv. Its founders are ex-Israeli soldiers and ex-Palestinian prisoners who decided to join hands in joint non-violent resistance as a means to end the occupation and bring equality, freedom, and peace to both peoples. Currently, he serves as the Director of International Relations for Combatants for Peace.
At the age of 14, Sulaiman was sentenced to 15 years in prison and served a term of 10.5 years. He spent his time in jail learning about history, Hebrew, English, and other world conflicts and peace activists, such as Gandhi and Mandela. He acquired the entirety of his education and worldview in jail. This is when he began to have new thoughts about the conflict and the means for resolving it.
As a result, he is a committed advocate for peace in the Middle East and an active member of various programs aiming to promote a peaceful solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, both within local communities and on regional and international levels.
Dr. Sapir Handelman
"Solution Focused Negotiation: the Israeli-Palestinian Case"

Dr. Sapir Handelman received the 2010 Peter Becker Award for Peace and Conflict Studies. It is the most important academic prize for Peace & Conflict research in Germany and probably in Europe.
He was a Post-doctoral Fellow at the Psychology Department of Harvard University, and he was the first scholar to receive the Lentz Fellowship in Peace and Conflict Resolution Research three times in a row.
Dr. Handelman was also visiting professor at the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies at Wayne State University. Dr. Handelman is leading the "Minds of Peace Experiment" - a grass-roots Israeli-Palestinian public negotiating congresses, that originated in major universities around the U.S. and Canada and is now extended to different locations around Israel and the West Bank.
Dr. Handelman is the Chairman of the Board of the Minds of Peace Organization, an NGO registered in the US and Israel. His latest joint initiative with NegoFlict is to create online forms of mediation and conflict negotiation.
Nivine Sandouka
Nivine Sandouka, is a professional aspiring to achieve social justice, peace and gender equity. She is an expert in the field of program development, management, peace building and gender issues. Currently, she works with the German Association for Development Cooperation – AGEH. She also runs a grassroots based initiative called ‘Judi- from me to you’ that aims to connect women together, and volunteers in several civil society organizations. . She was identified by the USA state department in 2014 as a young leader and participated in the prestigious ‘International Visitor Leadership Program’ on the theme of conflict resolution, and right now serves as an alumni leader.
Dr. Shaul Arieli
"The Conflict via The Borders"

Dr. Shaul Arieli researches the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and accompanies the peace process on all its sides; he is also one of the leading Israeli experts on all aspects of the border layout and the security fence. In the past, he served as commander of the northern division in Gaza, vice-secretary for military affairs at the Ministry of Defense and Prime-Ministers office, and head of the negotiations directorate under four Prime ministers -Yitzhak Rabin, Shimon Peres, Benjamin Netanvahu, and Ehud Barak. Today he is a lecturer at the Interdisciplinary center and a Hebrew University, a senior researcher in the Economic Cooperation Fund, and one of the initiators of the Geneva Initiative. He serves as a "friend of the Supreme Court" in petitions regarding the separation barrier. Arieli has an MA from the Recanatti School for Business at Tel Aviv University and a Ph.D. from the University of Haifa, From the Department of Political Geography. He published seven books about the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict and six collections of articles published in various papers.
Israela Oron
Israela Oron served as Deputy National Security Advisor at Israel’s National Security Council (NSC) during the terms of Ehud Barak and Ariel Sharon as prime ministers. In this capacity, Oron briefed the Israeli cabinet on strategic issues and headed inter-agency policy planning projects on several issues, including the Palestinian refugee issue. She is a board member of several NGOs, among them: The Geneva Initiative, Aharai!, Peace and Security Association and is also the steering committee of Ben-Gurion University.

Barry Nickelsberg
Barry Nickelsberg is a Chief Development Officer at The Carter Center in Atlanta, Georgia USA. The Center was founded by former US President Jimmy Carter. The Center’s mission is to Wage Peace, Fight Disease and Build Hope.

In 1978, President Carter brokered the first lasting peace accord between the Israel and Egypt. That Middle East Peace Treaty is still in effect today. A key figure in the success of this landmark Treaty was Leon Charney. President Carter often called Mr. Charney an invaluable partner during the 13-day negotiations at Camp David, where the Treaty was agreed upon.

In an attempt to find common ground between Israelis and Palestinians, Nickelsberg has met with hundreds of government and military officials in Israel, the West Bank and in Gaza.
Jaime Nieman: The Opportunity of the Orange​
This workshop will begin with a simple exercise where students will have to explore a basic conflict scenario: One orange and two students sitting face to face. They will need to be creative and develop as many ideas as possible to come up with a resolution to this conflict. The participants' experiences will lead to a larger understanding of conflict outcomes and conflict processes through Johan Galtung's transcend method. Only the most imaginative minds will be able to destroy the contradiction and find transcendence. Will you discover the hidden opportunities of the orange?​
Gili Roman: I See Pixels
'What do we actually know about the conflict? Are we bound to see only what we are framed to or can we see reality as it is, if there even is such a thing...'
Maayan Agmon: Non-Violent Communication
'We will learn the basic model of NVC and practice it with our own conflicts. We will also explore the four ways of listening and discuss our ability to actively choose the way we listen. At the end there will be time to practice these tools in pairs. Remember it's just a taste and that NVC is a skill that people learn for years.'
Einat Cohen: Resilience in Crisis
The Resilience program teaches coping skills, designed to overcome everyday challenges as well as stressful situations. What can we learn from our reactions to a stressful situation? Fight or Flight- is that it? Are there possibilities but the two F's…how does it work and when is it helpful? To be drifted away by the oceans’ current is a metaphor for human reaction when we are caught in " turbulence" that will guide us in the process of coping. This workshop will focus on a few simple methods to apply when recognizing a difficulty including physiological balance, Assertive listening skills and Compassion.
